Yeah okay... Its a little upsetting to think of tossing this DOWN the hatch... Although I have seen some toss it UP.... In my town we call it CowBoy BeBop - - A favorite Japanimation of ours also uses this method to drive those hangovers away... '-)

if at first you don't succeed
By Richter Prone

Cowboy Bebop is so sweet.
Anyway, I tried it once and it did make a considerable difference.

I have used these things since my first hang-over. I saw my grandfather do it when I was a kid and it worked for me. Then I saw it on Cowboy BeBop and laughed for an hour strait.
CBebop
These things work amazingly. I first tried it after I saw it on Cowboy Bebop. Don't work as well if you "break the seal" the night before.
missing ingredient
By JayJ
this drink deserves at least "4 martinis" but not unless made with brandy! in fact, it should just be brandy, egg yolk, worcestershire and tabasco sauce and drunk before going to bed! then again there's always RU-21...
Spike's Drink
By Cristy
In Cowboy Bebop Spike uses Gin. The bottle sits by the glass. you can see it clearly for about 10 or so seconds. but anywho. this version is whats called the bloody prary oyster. The one in Cowboy Bebop basicly uses Egg Yolk, Pepper, Gin and I think vinigar. not sure though. Still reasearching the diffrent types of prary oyster drinks to match the one with the series. Might take a while. ;D

You guys obviously don't know anything about Cowboy Bebop. It is an Anime based on a Dinosaur named Larry. Larry rides motorcycles. He also fights the Scourge known as Prairie Oyster! anyway. all you idiots got it all wrong.
Nicholas Denver Wolfwood
spike broke the first yolk he got a new eg =-p and this works great for hangovers if u use a few tablespoons of gin, an egg yolk, a few dashes of pepper, and a tablespoon of vinegar

I just saw this drink on cowboy bebop and then found this recipe and its so funny that all of the things are about cowboy bebop...haha probably because cowboy bebop's the shiznit
oysters and redeyes
By Quema
I've always had prairie oyster with bourbon rather than gin, but I won't argue with Spike. Round my way, we have a different version, the Redeye. Heard a few ways of making it, but I mix a half-pint of lager and a half-pint of tomato juice (1/4 litre of each, for anyone outside Britain), add Worcester and Tabasco sauce and drop the egg yolk in, then drink it down in one. Works a treat if it stays down.
There's more in the world
By Ombibulous
The prairie oyster is what Sally Bowles keeps swallowing in Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories. Is this website visited only by illiterate TV-watchers? And the Mencken quote - surely it's "perpetrated", not "perpetuated."
Just tried it
By Chase
Damn, That's some good stuff...I don't what makes it nasty. It went down easily, although I was apprehensive beforehand. Gotta love Spike!
The Good, Bad, and Ugly
Good-Makes for some twisted games.
Bad-Doesn't work too well as a remedy for hangovers.
Ugly-How many can you down before you run to the john?
Hee. ^_^ That eppie rules.
By Alana Hikari-chan
^_^ I've never drunk it before, since I'm not old enough to drink, but I've heard it does work wonders, so I was trying to dig it up for my story, which I'm technically too young to read. I'm glad I found a recipe! (And fellow peoples who watch Cowboy Bebop. ^_^ That was so funny, when he got into a fight because they made him drop the yolk... Teehee!^_^)
Ja ne!
it works...how?
it works pretty well for me but its hard to get the ingredients at bars...anyway it works from the spices and strong shit in it the egg and tomatoe juice is for vitimins and nutrition...you know all the bs the doctor tells you
Bebop
Yeah, Bebop is where I first heard of it. Instead of going through all that trouble just take a teaspoon of Wasabi. That'll wake you up before you can even make a prairie oyster.
Cowboy bebop
By Tail Gunner
5 for the hangover fix I also found this thing out off of Cowboy Bebop and it works just as well as sleep gatoraide and a greasy breakfast
I Think I Broke the Yoke
I tried this once and didn't feel all the more better afterwards. Then again, I'm no expert at making drinks and, like several others here, have acquaintances who swear by it. Of course, I first heard of it through Cowboy Bebop instead of Isherwood, which clearly makes me illiterate, which means I’m not actually typing this or able to read it.
By Spike Spiegel
I find it works just fine, myself.
Cowboy bebop
By
jeremy tan
this is funny, i thought it was just a drink made up, and i did some research on it and found this, i'm in love with cowboy bebop, i have all the dvd's and the movie, i'm going to try this drink sometime
why?
why would this help at all? one key factor to hangovers is not what kind of screwed up egg-and-tomato drink you can make after drinking, but what you drink. Some things are more notorious for causing hangovers. Secondly, just drink plenty of water throughout the course of the night. I always have my fridge stocked with bottles of water before a party, and have never gotten a hangover in my life.
DRINK MORE
By Jonny McFly
If you Have Never Had A hangover you do not know how to party and need to drink MORE.
Spike Spiegel's version
What was Spike's version? I thought i saw the glass with some Dry Gin in it first (at least so it seemed with a bottle closeby) then he put the egg yolk, then the Worcestershire Sauce (well, at least that's what it seems) then i think he added tabasco sauce instead of the ketchup(dunno), and he topped it with water. Can someone post what was his version of this drink?

OMG I <3 cowboy bebop! Spike Spiegel alright!! to the max!!!
This drink is super yummy in my tummy! but warning: if you drink this you could get salmonella and die.
Drank this before Cowboy Bebop
By
The Old Man Grendel
My version of the Classic Prairie Oyster tastes much worse, and works on more levels, I use it for my headaches.
3 egg yolk
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup v-8
1/4 cup Vinegar
1/4 cup soy milk
1/2 cup chicken broth (Cold, can)
1/4 tsp cinammon
1/4 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp Bassil
mix all but the eggs in a blender, put two egs at the botton, add the liquid slowly so not to break the yolk, then ad the second yolk
So im not the only one
By Eddie T
I to like so many others saw this drink off Cowboy Bebop and had to check it out, and it works it really works
This is why.
The majority of the ingredeants in the prairie oyster are eazy to digest, are well known for inhancing the minds abilities, and replenishes some "v" and "m" lost by the affects of alchohol. Not to mention the...pecular taste will definately take your mind off almost anything.
Also, does anyone here know exactly what Spike's original recipe for this thing is?
They do, they work
Its January 1st, and lemme tell ya, these things work. Bebop is the best anime, and thats ofcourse where I first heard/saw it. But my friend while driving me home suprised me with he knowledge of it. And I honestly never thought it was a real remedy. The egg coats your stomach, and it only helps your tummy settle.
re: "This is why."
You asked about Spike's specific recipe... It doesn't actually specify, but I'm watching that episode at the moment, and just backed it up a bit to try to see what he put in. here's what I got:
He seperates the egg yolk from the white in the first scene, and there's no white in the glass the second time he makes (or tries to make) he then he pours a more brown liquid from a brown bottle (workeshire one would assume), a bit of pepper, then fills with a clear liquid (doesn't specify, but there's a bottle of open gin in the background, and although he never touches the bottle, so one can assume) to just above the egg yolk
Honestly, I'm not sure if I wanna try this, maybe if I'm in enough pain after a night of drinking I'll give it a shot

Well, my grandfather, who was in the Navy used to drink these all the time. After the crew of the aircraft carriers got drunk, they'd usually have these. Also, when my grandfather came home from the Navy, he'd always have Harvey Wallbangers, and Vodka. Sometimes, he'd have gin instead/with it. But, no matter how much of a hangover he got, he always had one of these things the day after, and he was fine about thirty minutes later. Also, after seeing them on Cowboy Bebop (Episode: Heavy Metal Queens), it just made me smirk. My grandfather was from Texas, so he always loved to watch the "Space Cowboy" with me. After he saw it on the show, he labled everything Spike did, which was a flaw, from the "Traditional" and "Navy" versions of the drink.
Spike's Metal
I also heard of this from cowboy bebop.....but who hasnt anymore.....This worked wonder for me(SPike is wicked sick!)
Yes, alas the Bebop once more.
By /.
After watching closly to the Cowboy Bebop this is my deduction to Spike's recipe. Agian as some one has pointed out before the fight he is seen separating the yolk from the white of the egg, the yolk is added. Now before he has addes the brown item in the brown bottle there is already a brownish maroon substance in the glass. This maroon material I assume is soy sauce as a salt substitution as soy is a salty sauce used in mainly asian cuisine i.e. Japan. Next is the brown substance which I see as Worcestershire sauce. Then agian the maroon substance could be Worcestershire sauce and the brown soy sauce. As a side note Soy sauce is a key ingreedient in Worcestershire sauce. Next, he adds obviously pepper. Last he adds a clear substance which I take as water or Vinegar as in many recipes this is an ingredient. In the end this is just an assumption of my own observations. At least we can all agree that the sine qua non part of this drink is the egg. ;)
Yes the BeBop Prairie Oyster
By Spike
Yes i feel i should put you guys at ease. I remember that drag queen, i mean Heavy metal queen. one of the few ladys i get along with. My recipe is as follows
Prairie Oyster:Dry gin, yolk with no white, tomatoe sauce (even kethup will do), a little vinegar which wasn't what i used that day, werchestershire, a spice of some sort (chile pepper) or plain pepper, and top it with water. you can add lemon or lime to ease the taste and theres no soy sauce because that's taken care of with werchestershire or the salt from the egg which are really high in sodium. also if you don't believe theres vinegar instead of water just look at the clear glass, one can see watER and not vinegAR. see ya space cowboys and hopes this helps for the drinkers out there.
Vinegar
By Klassh
Too all those that are replacing vinegar with gin
Vinegar Effects:
1. Eliminate Fatigue.
2. Stimulate Adrenal Cortical = Prevent disease.
3. Beautify Countenance.
*4. Neutralize Alcohol.
5. Assist Digestion.
6. Kill Plaque Bacilli, Dysentery Bacilli, and Fungi.
7. Enhances Immune system and maintains a healthy body.
8. Kills Many Viruses.
9. Effective metabolic Stimulator.
10. Reduces Cholesterol and breaks down Fatty Acids.
So if you want to be strong and healthy like Spike, drink your vinegar. Besides, it will also help kill salmonella if you are worried about such things.
(PS, in regards to the post above, that is the bottle of BeefeatER gin. Though they changed the ee's to oo's.)
