But don't take our word for it...

Don't drink much, but

Had my first Gimlet after I heard some James Bond looking guy order one. I thought it was great. I didn't see the bartender add powdered sugar, though; all I saw was lime juice and gin.

How do you say that?

'Gim' like in 'Jim' or 'Gim" like in 'Gym'?

Gim or Gim?

Youtoofunny! Your odd question repeats the same sound: "Is it pronounced 'Jim' or 'Gym'"? Actually it is pronounced like the 'G' in gimp.

ehhh.. its an ok drink
By Mike Lachance

It ok. a bit rough, but not bad. The bartender who didnt add sugar. If he used Rose's Lime juice he would not need to add teh sugar... Rose's is sweetened. Of course many of us know that a far superior drink will be achieved by using REAL Lime juice, (unsweetened, preferably fresh squeezed) and then adding the sugar as in the recipe call.

Oh boy - this drink will sneak up on you. i remember throwing back a few in a little bar on 3rdAve. (NYC, of course) during happy hour (5pm) next thing I knew it was 11pm and I was literally spinning as soon as I got off that bar stool...

My favorite drink
By Derek the Red

Be sure you are careful about the sugar you use in a gimlet. Regular powdered sugar used in baking has cornstarch in it, which not only clouds the drink and makes the sugar slow to dissolve, but also tastes a little weird. Be sure to use either sweetened lime juice (like Rose's) or use pure fine sugar. Myself, I keep a bottle of lime juice mixed with sugar around so I don't have to worry about making the sugar dissolve. I have about 3 of these a week. :)

My favorite forever
By pjmartin@optonline.net

I had my first Gimlet almost 40 years ago. Not all bartenders know how to make it. Roses lime juice and Gin. Substitutions don't work, and some bartenders don't add enough Gin.

salty gimlet

Fresh lime juice, no sugar well shaken with ice up and salt on the rim.

A fun variation
By Ben

Shake in a few mint leaves! This is a fun, fresh variation! Shake... don't muddle (you only want a hint of mint.) I prefer fresh juice with simple syrup.
