I enjoy the vodka martini straight-up with no v ermouth and three olives

My Martini
By Phil

My favorite is Kettle One straight up with extra olives. If your at a good martini bar, they'll give you those jumbo olives, which really makes the drink. Not for the weak.

The greatest drink known

The very best. Be sure to use Chopin Vodka!!!

5/5
Best Martini Ever

Any quality vodka be it Goose, Chopin, and my favorite, Stoli can make the perfect drink, the vodka martini, straight up, and of course, shaken, not stirred.

I think this has to be one of the best drinks around. It gets you to where you want to go, and makes you look like a suave badass. If you aren't getting any lovin, change to this drink

time saver martini
By midget bartender

Forget the Vermouth, go out buy 1/2 galon of kettel One and put it in you frezer imediatly. Now when ever you want to enjoy a nice cold martini you don't have to worry about watering it down with ice. Just remove bottel from frezer, pour vodka in to a nice martini glas and add Olives to tase, preferable large pimento stuffed spanish olives of jalepeno stuffed spanish olives. ( I've only been making my dad's martini's since I could reach the vodka in the frezer at 5)

Kettle One martini, up, dirty. That's all I have to say about that! :)

Excuse me ... do any of you even know your claimed-to-be-fave Vodka? It is "Ketel One" Not Kettle One.

The dirty martini is the best drink ever. I prefer mine with 4 large olives - on the rocks. Stoli is excellent. Have 2 of these and you're ready to do anything!

AAAAhhhhhhhh :-)
By permagrin

First take a martini glass, spike 2 or 3 jalepeno stuffed olives, add to glass with a teaspoonful or so of jalepeno olive brine and put in the freezer til frosty, about 10 minutes. Shake ketel one vodka for 1 minute, no more no less, and stain it into the frosty hot glass. Enjoy! It will make you hot!!

The Dirtier, the better!

Never thought that I'd be saying this but, martini's are my favorite drink, in the whole wide world. I watched friends drink martini's for months. Never could handle the taste, till someone told me, "the dirtier, the better". Haven't stopped drinking them sense!

Belvedere Vodka
By Daniel Hinds

The vodka you use is very important. Kettle One, Grey Goose, Vox and Chopin are all fine vodkas. But, by far the most smooth vodka (in my opinion the best) is Belevedere. Served dirty and straight up, it can't be beat!

5/5
Best of the best

All of the others are great, but do not compete with ketle one, straight up, with 3 blue cheese stuffed olives.

ZYR - the ultimate vodka

All others pale in the face of Zyr Vodka, a new addition to the scene.

a real martini
By Valyn

i prefer a ketel one or chopin dry vodka martini...keeping the ratio of vodka to vermouth (noilly prat) 4:1.. shake vigorously with ice until it is unbearably cold..add about a tsp of olive brine to taste... and garnish with 2-3 stuffed olives..run a lemon twist around the rim of the glass and discard.. voila

Vodka should not be allowed near a martini

Vodka should not be allowed to within 100 feet of any martini in the world. If you eliminate the complex flavours of Gin and replace them with a bland vodka you've killed the drink.

Vodka should be drunk from a shot glass
By Martini man

You are slandering the Martini by using Vodka. Just drink it from a shotglass and quit bull shiting yourself that You are drinking a REAL martini.

A true martini
By Mr. Martini

The best drink in the world is a Vodka martini... hard... cold and straight with a stuffed olive. The colder the better but never with ice... the water in the ice destroys the flavor and always drink shaken, never stirred. 8 solid shakes only... just enough to bruise the liquer (stirring doesn't mix as well and doesn't bruise the liquer). As for the vodka... use a hard russian brand... Smirnoff or nothing.

5/5
Gin nay-sayers

Okay, okay. Gin is the traditional ingredient for martinis and does make for a more flavorful drink. However, that doesn't mean that you should shy away from a vodka martini, since it is also a great drink. By the way, if you like gin, go with Plymouth. If you like vodka, try Hangar One. But if you want the greatest beverage on the planet, look no further than Highland Park Single Malt, 18 years old.

5/5
ZYR MARTINI

ZYR Russian Vodka is a must try for any Vodka Martini drinker. I used to go with Ketel but I have seen the light.

this is by far the best vodka i have tasted. it is so smooth and goes well for martini's or just straight on ice

The Bliss Martini
By Pablo

Perfection in the form of a vodka martini, step-by-step: 1. Head to Del Frisco's Steakhouse in Rockefeller Center, NYC. 2. Do your best to find a seat at the bar. Speak only to a female bartender, perhaps "Monique". 3. Order a Ketel One martini, up with olives stuffed with blue cheese. 4. You will receive a perfectly shaken, vermouth-free, chilled glass beverage complete with made-to-order gorgonzola-stuffed olives. 5. Sip off the top, hold the glass steady, turn around and view the city through the 3-story windows. If you must be in attendance with a gin drinker, he can also enjoy his Bombay Sapphire in a similar fashion, stuffed olives included. Toast to a great life. You probably shouldn't try this at home!

Ketel One vs. the Rest

To the folks that claim vodka has no business being near a martini, you are right....if you're about 65 years old and narrow minded as a greyhound. No offence, but gin is, to use a more flattering phrase, "kind of grey". Its a drink of a different generation. I've had a martini, (gin) and a vodkatini (vodka) side by side. Sober as can be, I took one drink of each clensing my pallet between the two. For me, there is no contest. Vodkatini's are the way to go. Gin tastes awful. Ketel One is the best vodka I've had yet. I like the following combination: Ketel One - Half cap of Vermouth 3 Jumbo stuffed Olives Lots of Olive rine. Not too fancy, just great tasting. Also goes great with an ACID camroon or any mid-full bodied cigar.

5/5
Mrs Moore

I have only recently begun to drink martinis. An extra dirty grey goose freezing cold and 2 bleu cheese stuffed olives is the greatest. (And, I HATE bleu cheese) Go figure

Celebration in a glass
By jack

The Vodka martini is my favorite drink. I especially love it made with Belvedere Vodka, no vermouth, and three jumbo pimento stuff olives. Truly the nectar of the gods.

0/5
Tellie

Mrs. Moore, I tend to agree! Coldest Grey Goose, then add olives (BS on those fancy olives, you want the salt) and then if you prefer Blue Cheese (inside the olive, duh! but can be added artfully if needed) = THE best martini ever. Slight splash of vermouth for bitterness/taste. If you don't agree, you must be a (still) single male. This drink is sexiness in a romantic glass...be aware of this inference!!!

Have another
By John Kerry

Having Dubya in office another four years is enough to make anyone drink.

4/5
Tanqueray

Ok, for both Vodka and Gin Martini's Tanqueray is pretty good and smooth. For those of you who may not know Tanqueray, long famous for it's famiiar green bottle of gin seen in several bond films, Tanqueray also makes a very smooth vodka. I plan to try a Ketel One martini when I run out of Tanqueray. So for a good Tanq Martini, try the following: 4 drops of vermouth on the inside of a martini glass; enough to gently coat the interior of the glass. 6 ounces of ice cold Tanqueray Vodka. 3 Lemon Stuffed Olives. Twist of lime optional. Substitute gin for vodka for you traditionalists. Lime is a personal touch, as i really like lime.

If you want to drink cold vodka fine. but why call it a martini?

0/5
nonfaddist

so if i drink ice cold tequila shots and put green olives in them i can call it a martini?

2/5
Gin's the way to go

At first I was like many and thought that vodka would be the way to make a martini... However... I've seen the light of sorts... Gin produces a much more flavorful drink. That is to say... if you make your martini with vodka, an olive and a little bit of olive brine, passing over the vermouth because you want a dry martini then what have you got. Olive flavored alcohol (vodka by definition is flavorless, odorless and tasteless.) That is not to say that a vodka martini isnt any good. It too should be respected, but vermouth should be added, if even in some small quantity. Those gin purests who think vodka is so evil should actually chase down the idiots who invented "appletinis" "choclatinis" "rasptinis" etc... They're complete (not sure if i'm allowed to say it, but i'm gonna try) bastardizations of the drink.

Pearl and a Diamond
By Martinis in DC

The purist in me says reach for the GIN, but since this is a vodka review: Freeze your glass (smaller the better; keep a few in the freezer...you want it frozen, not chilled) Freeze your Pearl vodka (from Canada, so the cold won't bother it) Refrig your Noilly Prat Put that shaker away you Bond fans and make it right. There is beauty in simplicity: pour a smidge of Noilly in the frozen glass, swirl to coat about 3/4 of the way up the side and pour out (shake the glass a few times to remove more vermouth). Only now remove your Pearl from its icy hiding place and pour straight (I prefer ~2 ounces -- just make another later). I love olives, but keep them on the side. You don't want to mess with this finely polished diamond. And hold your glass my the stem. Don't worry, you'll still look like a man.

0/5
no no no

stir the ice with half shot of vermouth in tin pour most of it out. double vodka or gin in the tin stir gently trying not to break the ice double strain into chilled martini glass so there are no flecks of ice, I prefer lemon spiral. That is how it is done and i know my stuff

The best!
By DorothyParkerIsGod

Heres the best martini recipe. 1. Mist your glass with water, but ONLY OUTSIDE. Pop it in the freezer until its frosty and clouded over. 2. Pull out the frosted glass and drop in 2 or 3 large olives. The best are greek greens stuffed with slivered almonds. Then dribble in about a spoonful of brine. Nantucket Off Shore sells bottled brine. 3. You should already have a bottle of GG or Ketel in the freezer, so pull it out, along with your shaker and 1 large ice cube. Pull out the bottle of vermouth. Wave it over your glass and put that shit away. 4. Plop the cube in the shaker, then add a 9 count measure of vodka. 5. Shake the crap out of it, then rather than using the attached strainer, pull it off and use a knife to keep the ice cube out of the glass. This will give you a nice crisp layer of ice chips on top. 6. Drink. Rinse. Repeat.

Boz

I always asked for my vodka martini straight up, 3 olives with Belvedere. Until the that night when the bar ran out out of Belvedere. I was introduced to VOX by the bartender & now I have a new brand of vodka in my freezer. VOX is sooo smooth.

The best drink to be had. I HIGHLY reccomened the new 42 Below Vodka from New Zeleand. I Preffered it over Chopin, Wyborwa Single estate, Pravda, Ketel One, and Belvedre. Grey Goose has some real competition from it.

Three Olives vodka!!!
By vodka-martini lover

Best (in my opinion) vodka-martini mix is as follows: 3 parts of the Three Olives vodka to one part of the Extra Dry Martini. Shake the mix with the crushed ice until well chilled and strain into glass. Add one or two green olives; add a pinch of the juice from the olive jar to "dirt" the mix.

Did you know?

Did you know that what we all call a "martini glass" is really called a cocktail glass that you drink your martini from.... hmmmm P.S. Vermouth and Gin ok... Vermouth and Vodka never

An extroidinarily suave vodka

I give great applause to the master distiller of Grey Goose Vodka. Congratulations on it's victorious outcome during the prestigious World Spritits Championship, with a score of 96 out of a possible 100 points, Grey Goose Vodka is very delightfully promising to whom ever be it's consumer. Be it as a martini, mixed casually with cola, or straight with a shot glass, Grey Goose Vodka is superb.

I would second Valyn's recipe, which is the proportions that I happened to settle down with, but as a Texan with regional loyalties, I would substitute Tito's as my favorite brand. It has a much stronger flavor that stands up to olive dirtiness!

Pravda (truth)

Typically I've always gone with Grey Goose, no vermouth. But I must say, 3 Olives is great (and cheap), but Pravda Vodka is absolutly amazing. #1 in my eyes, you must give it a try!

4/5
Muppets

To all the muppets out there who don't put vermouth in the martini. It isn't a martini then is it? It's just a glass of cold vodka and also one drink in a cocktail means it isn't a cocktail. The stupidity of some poeple is amazing!

Alice Vodka Martini
By Geoff Sheard

I made a classic vodka Martini using Alice Vodka Blue - their rep gave me a free bottle to work with. Dash of Noily Prat, 50ml Alice Blue, stir 50 times with large ice and then sieve and serve with some lemon peel. It works because Alice Blue is half way between Vodka and Gin. It is very dry with crisp hop notes, but none of the more brutal juniper.

1st, chill the glass than coat it with a little scotch 2nd, Grey Goose and a splash of French Vermouth 3rd, add Jalepeno stuffed olives

Megs,LA Girl

First of all you're not a "true" martini drinker unless you have it mixed with gin.Noone really knows this but an actual real martini is made with gin and you never shake a martini or sip it on ice.Martini's original recipe is mixed with gin.A decent martini is mixed with grey goose triple the olive, real dirty and stirred never shaken, but to each is own right?

5/5
Megs,LA Girl

Well Ketel One is a very good inexpensive vodka.I tried it for the first time in a white russian a year ago and has been my favorite cheaper vodka of choice. It goes down so smoothe...and mixes well with alot of drinks...not very potent and strong for a vodka. Its delicious and calming on the rocks with a twist of lemon

Adrian

This is the only thing i drink. BUT, a "vodka martini" would be vodka, vermouth, and garnished with olives. straight vodka is, well, straight vodka... how can you call it a martini?! and a martini is gin, not vodka... as in the "dirty martini" your all refering to. As far as i kno, Martini's never came it vodka before James Bond. Anyway... i like it Belvedere with a splash of vermouth. a "vodka martini". no vermouth... you shouldnt even post here

Vodka Martinis are where it's at... I don't like gin, probably never will. If you're looking for flavor then order a pizza... I drink Martini's for the result, not for the flavor.

Vodka for any occasion
By c.font

Stoli Elit if you can spare the change... but Belvedere, Stoli, or (gasp) Smirnoff all work fine...fill martini glass with ice to chill, shake vodka searately with clean ice for a nice chill and velvety effect, drop in 3 JUMBO olives (no pouring over-no brine needed-the olives should compliment a vodka martini, not flavor it), dump ice from glass, pour, enjoy...or on the rocks with olives in a rocks glass, all depending on whether you're sitting or standing. Vermouth? What's that? ;-) If you must add vermouth, swirl around glass after dumping ice and then pour out, leaving a thin coating around the glass. A dirty vodka martini masks the subtle taste and quality of "premium" vodka and defeats the purpose entirely...if you want it dirty, stick with gin...

Wake up Generation X !

A martini made with vodka in place of gin isn't a martini. It is something else. It is good. It is tasty. It does the job as far as achieving the requisite buzz but... it's not a martini. Some fools here advocate skipping the vermouth altogether and just drink cold vodka. That is merely a shot of cold vodka and how is that a martini? People who drink vodka martinis are like people who like steak cooked well done. They don't really like meat. They should just order chicken or fish. The whole world going to hell in a hand-basket if you ask me.

Pravda

Honestly, I hate the pine sap "flavor" of Gin. I do agree, however, that a "martini" is made with gin. That is why I order a "vodka martini". Either way, this is splitting hairs, and leads me to believe there may be some 13 year olds posting here. I usually enjoy GG, but the wife just bought me a bottle of Pravda for my b-day. I'll let you know how it tastes. I've tried straight up, but with no flavor it just tastes like siping a shot glass of vodka. Vermouth is OK, little dirty with 3 big olives is better. Just my opinion. Roger

The Vodka Martini has been such an inspiration to almost everyone who thought James Bond is cool! Its the inspiration to one of Americas Greatest Artist, Michael Godard (sp) and he dosent even drink! I love to get a cold (Inser Brand Here) Martini - A splash of Vermouth, 3 olives, and a good classic Rat Pack movie! So enjoy... I know I do!

5/5
homebrewn

Ok so people are starting to come to there senses in here. If you order "A Martini" at any decent bar, they should bring you gin. I do love my vodka martinis, but please, call them vodka martinis. Also, if you want cold vodka, order cold vodka. Don't order a vodka martini without any vermouth. Now I am not much a fan of vermouth, but I will tell you the perfect recipe: 1) Start by filling a cocktail glass with ice and a splash of water to chill it, set it aside. 2) In a large shaker, fill 1/2 way with cracked CLEAR ice, no air in it(not out of your fridge). 3) Add your vodka (No sense in arguing what brand, its your preference, I like Ketel, but would never order anything less than Absolut) 4) DO NOT SHAKE!!! A real martini is stirred. Shaking dillutes the drink. Stir the drink with the back end of a bar spoon until the outside of the glass is frosted 5) Dump out the ice and water from the cocktail glass. Pour a capful of dry vermouth into the cocktail glass. Now swirl it around the inside of the glass, and then dump it all out into the sink. This leaves a very slight taste of the vermouth on the inisde of the glass. When ordering this in a bar, as for your martini "in & out." 6) Add your olives if you like olives. I hate olives. If you are like me, take a twist of lemon and twist it over the glass releasing the oils in the rind. Then drop the lemon twist into the glass 6) Strain in your vodka into your cocktail glass and enjoy.

Ketel One/Belvedere

First of all, thank those few of you who got it right - it is Ketel One (not Kettle One) and was my favorite for the last 6 or 7 years. Although it will always have a special place in my heart,a dear Polish friend of mine finally educated me on the Polish Potato vodkas. I just opened my first bottle of Belvedere this week, and alas, I am in love. Try it - you won't be sorry.

My Vodka Martini

Fill martini glass with ice. Add 6-8 cubes ice to shaker, add about 1/2 oz. of vermouth and stir for a few seconds..do not shake! Pour out the vermouth, what sticks to the ice will be plenty. Add 3.5 oz of Grey Goose and a little olive brine and shake till shaker frosts. Dump ice from what is now a well chilled glass and strain shaker contents into glass. Add 3 stuffed olives, I prefer jalopeno but the choice is yours. Sit back and enjoy!

sisyphus martini

this is a man's martini, I recommend to avoid drinking more than 3 in any sitting, 2 1/2 ounce Gdanski Spritus 76 percent vodka 1/2 ounce vermouth swish the cold vermouth around your frozen martini glass but do not discard, pour the vodka into a shaker with cubes, stir gently and strain the vodka into your martini glass before the ice begins to melt, no fucking olives, garnishes are pretentious,
