Yum

Orange juice is the only way to have a shirley...there's no point in leaving it out!

none

I've been looking for a great shirley temple recipe and so far you are the first to say orange juice, and that's good because I knew that had to be in there. I haven't tried it yet but thanks

Not so virgin Shirley....

Another great way to enjoy it is to remove the soda and add Vodka, just a touch. And of course Orange Juice!

Easy

This is the fastest and easiest drink to make. All you really need is a can of sprite and a bottle of grenadine. Make them on the go.

Kids say the darndest things....
By Alf

My 11-yr old son says... Never leave the orange juice out of a Shirley Temple! Well, there you have it.

the only way to drink it!

Yes, this is an awesome recipe. The orange juice is what adds that scrumptiousness to it. Delicious. Try it! Lizzy

Australian Shirley
By Kel

We here in the land of Aus enjoy a good shirley with pineapple juice and lemonade to top, try it u'll love it!

Great Drink

Great drink for the kids at weddings, though I've always seen the recipe as Sprite and Grenadine with some Marichino cherries. I've never seen orange juice or ginger ale used.

Some like it sweet
By Jenn

I like a little more grenadine then most do, i put 3/4 of an ounce of the grenadine and a little less oj.

5/5
YumYumYumYumYum

It was delicious. I loved it and will make it at my christmas party!

5/5
Orange juice makes the difference

I used Diet 7-Up instead of ginger ale--I had tried to make a Shirley Temple previously without the orange juice. It wasn't nearly as flavourful, the o.j. really enhances the drink. Delicious!

Goes Good With Grenadine
By Jason

Try putting Grenadine in a can of pop such as sprite or mountain dew. It also tastes amazing. That stuff is an orgasm in your mouth :-)

MY ELEVEN YEAR OLD LIKES SHIRLEY TEMPLES
By SALLIE DAVIS

HI! MY OLDEST SON LOVES SHRILEY TEMPLES. ALSO, KNOW AS ROY ROGERS. WE MAKE THEM ON SPECIAL OCASSIONS AND ON HOLIDAYS. I DRANK THEM AS A KID. THEY ARE EASY TO MAKE EVAN ADDING OJ.

The 99 restaurant in the Northeast makes a passable one without the OJ.

Try This!!!
By Sonal Patel

Try the Shirley Temple with less o.j. and the same amount of grenadine and replace the ginger ale with sprite or some 7-up. Garnish it with a cherry and an orange slice.

shirley temple not shrine
By Frank Guiling

this drink tastes better if 7-up or sprite is used rather than ginger ale. To make it a little intoxicating, 1/2 oz of vodka will do the job. Try using tangerine instead of orange. This is what I called Shirley Shrine.

roy rogers
By danielle

a roy rogers is made with everything like a shirley temple except its made with coke instead of sprite, or so i thought.

This is the best drink to party to...it is always so much fun and of cource so good!

best non-alcoholic drink

I've never tried it with the OJ, but will have to. When I go to Las Vegas (where they give you free cocktails at the card tables), this is all I ever order. Keeps me from getting drunk and giving the casino all my money. Yay Shirley Temples.

The best thing alive

If you need something quick and tasty to drink then the shirley temple is the best choice!

this is what I was looking for...
By mia

I used to drink these all the time as a kid...never knew about the OJ, it definitely makes a HUGE difference. I used Sprite since that's what I had and it was great!

Hey, Does anyone know of another name for a Shirley Temple? My aunt used to refer to them by a different name, but it wasn't "Roy Rogers." Any info would be appreciated!

5/5
Finally found it!

I've tried quite a few receipes for this, but this is by far the best I've found. At a recent dinner party, I made several pitchers of the Shirley Temples mainly to pacify the minors in attendence. To my surprice, most of my adult guests thought the confection was as refreshing to their palate as the $200 bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon I served. WHO KNEW? I also tried this with a little less orange juice (BECAUSE I RAN OUT...YIKES!) using about 3 oz to every 8 oz of soda, and the response was even more spectacular. Just a thought.

I'm Loving It

This Snirley Temple is great! I'm going to reccomend this recipe to all my friends!!!!!!! :-)

Wow, great!

I have always made this drink with oj. We had a cooking show and the response from the kids was great! I know what i'll be serving at my next party!

~*A more detailed explanation*~

one tbs of lime juice, 4 oz of gingerale and 2 tbs of grenadine

Taboo

As good as this drink is, I can't help but feel a little funny holding a red drink at a party. "Oh having a Shirley Temple are we?", could be a little deflating. We should rise up and say "I love Shirley Temples even though I'm 40!" The stigma attatched to this drink keeps me from having one. I am going to buy some grenedine tomorrow and celebrate my favorite drink.

By Johnny Walker

Try not using ginger ale, orange juice, or grenadine...just use the ice and lots of bourbon. Yum.

Shirley temples are great, but i have to say, i don't drink them that often, and i'd rather ave a fresh glass of sweetened iced tea.

Gotta Have The Juice

You're absolutely right! You definately need the O.J. We order one the other day for our daughter at a popular restaurant franchise and we had to send it back because they forgot the that secret ingredient and they never heard of it before but they have now.

Tastier on the Outside

We drank these all the time in prison. We got the ginger ale frome the machine, and stole the grenadine from the kitchen. In fact I loved them so much I got the nick name 'Shirley'. If we had only known about the O.J.

First off, sadly, I am an alcoholic who is in recovery. With no alcohol its the perfect recovery drink. "It adds to the taste, and takes away the shakes":) Thank you Shirley for saving my life.

Tasty Cherry!!
By ME!

Cherry Goodness- In my opinion if you use cherry &up instead of sprite or gingerale it is way better and gives it more of a cherry flava! I have yet to try it with orange juice.MMM..MMM..GOOD!;)

I LOVE These drinks! Especially with the O.j. I'll tell my friends that we'll sell these to make money for our school. I'm shure if me and my friends like 'em, The whole school will adore them.

Gaz

I personally prefer the drink with OJ; However, most of my customers are happy with 7-up and grenadine. Obviously everyones tastes differ; Therefore, I must stick to the simpler form at our bar.

What's it called?

Emancipated Shirley
By zoe

I've been a bartender and I've always known Shirley as a virgin. We played Trivial Pursuit and I got this question wrong!!!! Their recipe called for wine in it. Anyone know this older Shirley? Email me please...it bugs the hell out of me.

Put the grnidine in last so that it sinks to the bottom and create the typical "Look". my brother and i love these drinks and it tastes even better with a hint of lime or lemon juice. Try experimenting.
