Instead of Vermouth use Contreau. This gives it
a little bit of an orange flavor and makes the drink
soooo much better. Never use Lemix. I went to a bar
that used Lemix and the Cosmopolitan was awful. Nice to sip on a nice warm night at sunset on the patio on
the water.

This is the greatest drink ever. It's great for sports parties or how ever you want it. This drink is awsome.
vermouth????!
SO, only a spanker would put vermouth in a cosmo. Cointreau is the best bet, but use triple-sec if you're cheap or desperate. Also, more like 2.5oz vodka, 1oz.Cointreau, and enough cran. to make it pink. Lime twist/wedge. A little squeeze of lime juice is nice, too.

Try using a citrus vodka instead of just plain vodka. i t gives the cosmo an extra spark! And definitely use the cointreau instead of vermouth!! Who uses vermouth?!
My Cosmo

A good cosmo is a beautiful thing. Here's mine:
I muddle about a third of a lime with ice to start. Add a heavy shot of vodka (about 1.75 oz) and about 0.5 oz of Cointreau. I think any more than that is too much, as it has an overpowering flavor. Add a splash of cranberry - not too much. Take an orange twist and flame it briefly over the cocktail glass and drape it over the edge. Shake the mixture hard, and then strain into the glass.
Mmmm. A lemon vodka can really liven this drink up, but it's probably a waste of a super-premium straight vodka. Other flavored vodkas are worth experimenting with, except the orange ones.

2 oz. Absolute Currant makes this drink (or Citron as a 2nd choice); .5 oz. Cointreau; splash of fresh lime vigorously shaken so that small shards of ice float at the top with the lime slivers. What presentation!

I love this drink. Great recipe.
Use Triple-Sec instead of vermouth, and
vanilla vodka.
just terrific
if you are having a hard time in choosing a drink a cosmo will never ever let you down in my opinion.
Excuse me???
CWho uses vermouth??? Don't be a peasant!!!! Bond used dry vermouth, and if you are in anyway serious about your martinis, vermouth is a must. Otherwise you've just bastardized the best drink in the world. (Agree re the citrus vodka though).
try this
Use Raspberry Stoli for the vodka...just a touch of cranberry and Cointreau with the lime twist.... it's excellent.
Awsome Cosmo
i use equal parts of citrus vodka, triple sec and cranberry juice, along with a slzsh of lime juice and lots of ice to make this drink by the pitcher full. When served i float thin slices of fresh lime on top. SCRUMPTIOUS!!
Dr. K.
Florida Style.....use Van Gogh Pineapple vodka for most of the vodka, go light on the cointreau. (1.5 pineapple, 1 oz. plain vodka, .5 cointreau,) squeeze of lime, splash of cranberry! MMMMMMM......

I love this drink. A little more expensive than Contreau is Grand Marnier. It tastes sooo much better though.
Blue & Purple Cosmos
I agree with those who say that vermouth should be eliminated from the cosmo.. vermouth should be limited to the classic martinis (stirred, 2 oz) and not the martini cocktails such as the cosmo (shaken/strained, 5.5 oz)
Anyways, just wanted to share a couple of twists to the cosmo, which seem to be increasing in popularity at the bar where I work, particularly because of the colour presentation and the hustle and bustle of Sex and The City.. red cosmos are your standard 1 oz vodka, 1/2 oz triple sec or cointreau, 3 oz cranberry, and 1 oz bar lime (collins.)
... substituting 1/2 oz triple sec or cointreau with Blue Curacao will produce a purple cosmo.. and substituting the triple sec or cointreau *AND* red cranberry juice with blue curacao and white cranberry juice will get you a blue cosmo.. which is less tart than the purple and blue ones.
Cheers.
The Kettle is Better
By Joan
For the best martini use Kettle One Vodka. Kettle One is sooo smooth. You wont know your getting drunk!!
no vermouth!!!???!!!!
Great drink, just use cherry flavored vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and a splash of lime juice. Just heavenly!!!!!
Cointreau is the key...
Cointreau is the key here but if you really want to get it on use Absolut Kurant vodka...that's the ticket!
45ml Absolut Kurant vodka
15ml Cointreau
muddle 1/4 lime wedge in bottom of shaker add spirits and 45ml straight cranberry juice (Cranberry Cocktail will substitute) shake and strain into chilled oversized martini glass and garnish with orange strings (long zest).
I like the idea of a flamed peal in the mix what kind of orange is best? I try and use thin shinned navels.
Cheers, D
What about the Grape fruit juice?
By George
The bar I go to makes the cosmopolitan like this: Vodka, Grape fruit juice, cranberry juice, tripple sec, then put all in a shaker and pour into a martini glass. Enjoy!
About the Shaker
By George
Yeah well the shaker part is to strain the drink through the ice and for flavor, but if you do not want to use a shaker then fine. In my opinion mixing drinks in some ways are like cooking as in adjust the recipe to suite your own tastes.

Great drink, just dont order it from T.G.I. Fridays. My first cosmo came from there and they totally messed it up. It was way too strong and I dont even think they added any of the fruit juices.
