candy land

Try using diet cola instead of regular cola along with the white rum and lime juice. Mix in some fruiti liquor if available and pour it all over semi-mushed iced. Its better than cotton-candy at the amusement park!!

I've been drinking this for years and never knew what to call it. Funny, it also ended up as my drink personality from the quiz

Rum and Coke with lime juice

I used to call this rum and coke but without lime juice.

Can't Go Wrong

No matter how messed up you get, you can't mix a bad Cuba Libre. Especially with good rum. I should know (MSU SPARTAN)

Mentirita..
By Manny

Cubans often refer to this drink as a "mentirita". Translated, it means "a small lie". "Libre" means free, and of course, if you're one of the anti-Castro Cubans, you know Cuba isnt "free". A typical Cuban will call this drink a mentirita very often.

Was mainly a beer guy until I created my first Cuba Libre. Tried different rums and colas, and have decided to go with the original Bacardi and Coca Cola. Vanilla Coke and Diet Coke give it a bit of variety as well. Visit bacardi.com to get a great history of this drink.

Cheap cola
By Cam

I love it with Havana Club rum and the cheapest economy cola I can find (we're talking 15p (about $0.25) for a 2L bottle cheap).

Campesino

The incrediences for the best Cuba Libre (in my oppinion): Havana Club Anejo Reserva (yes it's the dark one, PEPSI (way better than with cola), pieces of lime (squeeze them out) and pieces of lemon Also one of my favorites: Jamaican Libre - just use Jamaican rum (Myers's Rum is the best one) instead of Cuban rum Enjoy it and get wasted

the way to do it!
By Jason

Pummel some fresh lime in a rocks glass, fill with ice, havana rum, pepsi. couple of bits of mint, brilliantly refreshing drink for a hot day!

Cuba Libre w/ Grenadine

Add a splash of grenadine to take away the punch of the rum and add some frutiness. A good mix for people who don't like drinks that taste too much like alchohol but pack the same whallop.

Cuba Libre (KOO-VA-LEE-BRAY)
By Huey Borkum

1 oz Bacardi Dark Rum or 1 oz Bacardi 151 (If you are feeling naughty) fill highball glass with ice, add rum and top off with Coke. Squeeze a lime wedge over the top and stir. Serve with an extra lime wedge on the side of the glass.

La Mentira

La mentira as we (cubans) call it. Try this twist, use Bacardi Limon instead of regular Bacardi. If you use Bacardi Limon please skip adding the lime.

my carribean rum experience
By Rogelio

I lived in the Dominican Republic (where rum is king) for three years and don't remember ever seeing any white rum. For me, the only authentic Cuba Libre is dark rum, cola and a slice or wedge of lemon (not lime).

Less is More
By El Guapo

A brilliantly simple drink. I like it best with fairly "bright" caribean rums. Fresh Lime is important as is a strong, spicy Cola. Most of all, go easy on the Coca-Cola. Less Cola is More. This should be more of a cocktail than a well drink. Skip the highball and use a smaller glass. Make this a sipper instead of a slurper and you'll be in for a treat.

Cuban Libre is Awesome.

for a quick drink that any one can make and goes down well. This is how I make it I use Havana Club Anejo Especial rum. Cheap Cola works just as Coke or Pepsi You can put a little bit of lime or lemon juice, (I like cutting lime or lemon slices and putting it directly into the drink) Put the Icecubes in first before the rum or cola so it dosen't overflow. Enjoy!.

Let me clear this up
By Nick

I see some posts about the way we Cubans refer to this drink. Perhaps this varies from place to place, but mentirita is a bit of a misnomer. Some say the drink is called "a little lie" or "mentirita" by Cubans becaus Cuba is not actually free. Not so. Cubans refer to the drink as a "Cuba Libre" because the Bacardi family (the drink SHOULD be made with bacardi, but Cuba is famous for rum in general) is originally from Cuba and Coca-Cola is an American drink. WHEN Cuba IS free the two will live in harmony on the island because we will be able to lift the embargo on Cuba, mening Coke will be available in Cuba for mixing with Cuban rum. "Al bartender le dire siempre una y otra vez, yo quiero Cuba Libre!" - famous Cuban American singer Willy Chirino Translation: "I'll always ask the bartender for a Cuba Libre!"

clearin it up again
By J Crespo

having visited cuba, they have coca-cola in cuba cuz they import it from mexico. besides that, yea bacardi is cuban but everyone knows boricuas make the best rum. if you have a really good liquor store nearby and live on the east coast, look for Tres Barralito. A famous puerto rican rum. Excellent mixed or straight up.
