Once you know how to make one sour, you know how to make them all. Combine 2 ounces of the desired liquor with 1 ounce of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of superfine sugar. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Sometimes a bartender will add a little orange juice, which is worth trying if you enjoy sours.
Many of these recipes call for Sweet & Sour, which is a mixture which includes both the lemon juice and sugar. If fresh lemon juice is available, we urge you to ignore the specifics of these recipes and mix up your own sweet and sour mix.
Sours are usually served in a sour glass with their garnishes, but they may also be served on the rocks in a tumbler or an old-fashioned glass without garnish.
